Default WTB: Rear Diff

I have an '03 drivetrain. Im not too savvy about which years would be able to mingle. It just started whining a couple days ago, so I should be ok for a wee bit. But please let me know what you guys have! Supa Sweet!

Sounds like it might have the wrong fluid in it. Can't hurt to swap in some new stuff.

try putting a synthetic 75-90 in it and see if that helps. should be about 1.5 pints to fill it up

I think it's like .9 Liters. I use Mobil-1 synthetic 75-90 since it's cheap and readily available but it's not picky.

Just no synchro additive as I recall.

It's an '02 (which is the same anyway), and you can use nearly any fluid you want to, since there's no clutch-type LSD.

Brian had just changed the fluid about a week or two ago. And then a couple days later it started whining. It has Castrol 80-90 GL5. No Bueno?

That sure sounds like a cause and effect to me. 75-90 is what the manual calls for and Red Line and Mobil 1 appear to be popular.

Alrighty, thanks guys. Guess I'll change the fluid again. If it still whines, I'll let you know.

If you end up needing a diff, I've got a 1:3.545 non-LSD R160 diff sitting around my garage from my SVX swap.

It's the correct ratio for the '02 WRX so it'll match your '03, it just doesn't have the LSD carrier. If your current LSD carrier isn't damaged, it's not a terribly hard job to swap the carrier into the diff and keep the limited slip.
