Default Got Good Fuel??

seems within the last month I have been getting cheated on quality 91 octane fuel from chevron.. am lucky to get readings of over .06 on the dynamic advance mult. w/ the a.p.
i know vp is good @5.39 and 7.65 a gal. and so far have found that the chevron on pyramid and Mccarran and the texaco near sierra sids is good but would be nice not to drive 10 miles just for gas!
anyone have any favorite stations with good numbers????

Deal, did somebody say Deal? Oh, Dean, yeah that's me.

Sounds more like a tuning issue than a gas issue.

What mods and tune are you running?

What is the starting modifier in the tune after reset?

Also, if you reset after each fill, you lose all the other learning especially A/F trims which can easily induce knocking which will dump timing. Never ever drive hard after a reset unless you have a custom tune which has been very closely mapped A/F tables.

Think about how you drove during each period and the weather. If you drove hard right after a reset, the ECU is going to pull timing and be reluctant to re add it.

At this altitude, a good tune should run at 1.0 and stay there even on CA 91, maybe even 89 or 87.

Have you done any other logging to see what is happening, or are you just going by the multiplier? It is a really bad indicator of much of anything without any other data.

Default tune

yep its protuned and fine tuned for my mods and the altitude by Miles at FLI
fuel quality varies from station to station.. even same brand fuel..
been data logging and the D.A.M. is a good indicator on good or bad fuel

Not saying you didn't get a bad tank, and fuel quality varies, but not by that much. It is fairly well regulated and tested. Only in the rare case of a station tank getting filled with the wrong grade is the octane going to be off by more than a percent, nothing your car should notice especially at altitude.

I disagree. D.A.M. is an indicator of past knock, not fuel quality and a poor one at that. The ECU is VERY quick to pull timing advance and incredible slow to add it back.

Knock can be caused by any number of circumstances and it is seldom fuel quality especially from major name brands.

Any knock at altitude is most often tuning. With a good tune, in closed loop under load, your learned and real time A/F trims should be very low single digits both individually and total.

You didn't answer what mods you have and when or if you had been reseting and what your base multiplier is. Reseting makes a huge difference in ECU learning and how quickly it makes changes.

I am not familiar with Miles or FLI, where are they located?

Again, not dissing you, him, your tune, or anything, just trying to understand what is going on and offer feedback.

I think FLI is in Santa Rosa (Fine Line Imports). http://finelineimports.net/ They have been around for some time now.
