Default Local tuners?

Hey guys,

New to the forrum and wanted to say hey and had a few questions. First off, I was looking around for a local tuner and only found modified import salon in reno, heard of a few other tuners in the sac area, was wondering who was recommened.

Also, I was looking at trying some autox this summer, was wondering if there was any info on this?

Thanks for the help, looking forward to possibly meeting some of you guys at a meet in the near future, was referred here thru a friend at work.

-Nathan

P.S. I would have posted in a new member section, but didn't see one. Hope this is an ok place, if not mods please move.

Welcome to the board. Mike @ GST in Hayward, Ca has tuned several cars on this board, as well as Paul @ DB Tuned in Roseville. I've never worked with Modified locally.

Welcome. Ed at EQTuning in Fairfield has done all of my tuning over the years. He's really good and does both road tuning and dyno tuning now too, I believe.

Check out www.renoscca.org for info on AutoX. There's a current schedule up there and also a link to the forum there. Many of us here autox or are involved in some way too so feel free to post questions here too.

Thanks for all the replies, looking at having Cory take a look at the car.

Also, If I dont make that first autox event will I still be able to attend future events? Also, is there a class system in place?

You can come to one, many or all events. There is a class system but for the first year it is usually easiest to run in "novice" class, then you don't have to worry about which modifications are legal, etc. Just show up and drive.

Also, each points class has a designated run time, either morning or afternoon, but in novice you can run in the morning or the afternoon, or both if you want more seat time.

Yes to both. If this is your first season though, you should run in our Novice class, which doesn't bother trying to class your car and mods, and is solely for new drivers. You're not required to run Novice of course, but many of our competitive drivers started out there and will tell you how helpful it was. If you'd really rather run regular classing, tell us ALL of your mods and we can tell you where they put you.

You can show up to any events you'd like. If you make half of the available events, you'll be able to get annual tech the following year and are also eligible for a trophy in your class.

The first event is a "school"/test 'n tune and is highly recommended for newbs.

There is a class system based on your mods or lack there of. Google "2010 SCCA SOLO Rules" for the PDF of the rules including classing.
Direct Link: http://www.scca.com/documents/Solo_R...solo_rules.pdf

Feel free to ask us for our opinions on your class based on mods too.

Right now I would just like to learn the limits of the car since I have never done any kind of racing, so the novice class sounds like the right one.

Is there any kind of safty gear needed, such as a helmet, fire extinguisher, ect.?

Current car mods are just a stage 1 tune, with stage 2 this weekend. Later on looking at upgrading some of the suspension and getting a set of wheels and summer tires. Order of recommened upgrades now?

You will need a helmet, although loaner helmets are available at the events if you want to try out autox before forking out money.

I would recommend not doing any mods, or at least any more mods, until you have a few events under your belt and get a better idea which direction you want to go.

The "correct" mod path for getting the most out of your car is:

1) Seat time (aka mod the driver)
2) Seat time
3) Seat time
4) wheels/tires
5) suspension
6) brakes
7) engine/power
8) weight

And weight is only listed so low because it's virtually impossible to really make decent weight loss on a production based street car w/o going insane in chopping the car to bits. Otherwise I'd list it above suspension, brakes and engine.
