Default Another bit o' wildlife

Here's another interesting one. It was in a field just down the road from my place where I see lots of coyotes, and was by far the largest example of it's kind I've seen around here. Lynx rufus is the proper name, commonly called a Bobcat.

This sucker was the size of a small coyote, I'm guessing he was in the 36" range. Watched him for about 30min, stalking through the field, detecting rodents, getting position, and pouncing. I watched him catch and eat probably 8 times.

The light sucked, with the sun already behind the hills. I used my Fuji S5000 at 10x with a 2x doubler. Shutter speeds of 1/400 @ f3.2.

Yup, they are in Nevada. Mean as can be, the yotes will steer clear of them.

Great pics! I needed one of those roaming around my place this summer, when the rabbits would not leave the back lawn alone.

No matter how cool it looks I don't think I would want it roaming my back yard...

Nice Pictures though!

I have foxes that regularly cruise through my back yard.

Unfortunately, they are the four legged variety.

Thread bump, I saw this dude a couple days ago while in the field looking for potential climate change monitoring sites in eastern NV for an NSF-funded instrumentation project.

Hope that was worth some tax $$.

So we are going camping this weekend. A couple years ago at the same place we came across some extremely friendly deer. Yes, I know you shouldn't feed them, and I know they can be dangerous, but a couple sugar cubes never hurt anybody and these deer are about as used to people as they come:

I fed a whole tube of Pringles to a family of deer at Stampede. Who takes sugar cubes camping?

We do... for the deer. Celery is a more nutritious snack for them and they like that too.

I was gonna say, when you're out of sugar cubes do you break out the gum drops or candy canes first?

It's quite unusal to see bobcats out in bright sunlight, they tend to prefer the dawn and dusk. We've had one in our driveway at high noon. They are very confident and you don't want to mess with them, keep your pets close! Great photos!!

Desert Bighorn, actually. Ovis canadensis nelsoni.

Southern Snake Range, ~9,500'.
