Default 02 WRX front brake calipers, same size as 04 wrx?

I know that the pads and caliper brackets are different sizes/shapes but the rotor and I'm assuming knuckle are the same. I'm just wondering if I replace '02 caliper brackets with '04 brackets, will the '02 caliper still bolt up?

Why am I asking this ridiculous question?

Even though my car is an 04, it has 02 brakes on the front. I have a set of 04 brake pads I want to install. It would be better/cheaper for me to update the brake brackets than trying to sell my brake pads and purchase a set of 02 pads.

I figured that many of you have had to swap such things or repair and replace them. Maybe even Alex can chime in... in 2 weeks.

Does anyone have a set of 04 wrx brakes laying around so I could take a look?

They should still bolt up, the knuckle did not change so the distance between the bolts will be the same.

When I had my 02 RS, it came the newer style pad/bracket and I converted it to the early WRX caliper brackets and larger WRX rotors. Everything worked fine, I just bought a set of the older style pads.

So...

TIMELINE OF FRUSTRATION
1. Bought HAWK pads
2. Went to install HAWK pads / realize they are the wrong shape.
3. Double checked HAWK part number / confirmed Part# for '04 model.
4. Assumption: Car has old style 02 brake pads etc.
5. Discover Caliper slide pin welded solid into bracket from rust.
6. Break pin while trying to remove
7. Order new caliper bracket for 02 model year
8. Receive caliper bracket and realize its also the wrong shape
9. Sit and wait for correct everything

Conclusion
Box of HAWK pads mismarked with wrong part number.
