Default stockish RS gas mileage

For the folks on here with stockish or lightly modified RS's what kinda gas mileage are you getting and on what gas?

i think i'm getting about 24mpg on 87 octane. Seems kinda low but I accelerate pretty hard onto the highway, and other higher speed limit roads (45+)

I noticed my car ate about a 1/2 quart of oil at rally Idaho, which i was very surprised for a 2k mile NA motor . hmmf

EPA puts it at 18/25, or 22.2 combined.

My motor ate tons of oil when it was new. Drive it harder on 5w-30 dino oil to get the rings to seat.

I get ~25 MPG on my daily commute between Stead and Reno and all the city driving in between. I get ~27 on the freeway. I don't get on it much, though. I know I don't have an RS but find it funny that I get better mileage than you with a heavier, older, turboed car.

You're surprised that a low-compression (off boost) 2.0L motor gets better mileage than a high-compression 2.5L motor?

Yup. I stated 3 reasons I was surprised and you only stated 2. I win. Duh.

PS: It's almost impossible to stay out of boost with the 2L. You probably forgot.

I usually get around 22-23 mpg, pretty much all around town driving. I'm only on the freeway for maybe 10 minutes a day.

My RS has always got close to 30 on the freeway and 23 ish in the city. I drive like a grandma and shift at 2900 religiously.

In regular mixed driving I always got 23ish. Hypermiling on my courier route to Sacramento and back I got 32.5.

As for oil consumption, you did something wrong. I wasn't even burning 1/2 quart per oil change at 106k when it was totalled.

I think i did get 30 mpg going down to sacramento, staying close to the speed limit and lower rpm shifting points.

Ya i was afraid of the "something wrong" for burning / eating oil. AIMs built the motor .. though it does feel stronger now, than before the Idaho trip.

I also discovered @ idaho the O2 sensor plug came undone (the wide band one too) , not sure if it was like that for 1 stage, the entire weekend, or longer (into the break in mileage)

and i'm probably in a situation where its tough shit. with a Rally every 4 weeks and no spare block i don't think is possible to get the motor rebuilt, and since its been raced on i dought it would be under any sort of warranty. I think all they did to the lower end was a Re-hone and put in new rings and bearings. not really sure why i'm eating oil ... (maybe its driving style as all my imprezas end up with an oil eating problem?)

LoL waaaaaah oh well, shit happens. i should do a compression check and monitor it to see if i lose compression over any races...

Could i have burned oil because the motor is still breaking in? after getting home from Idaho i just now have 3,000 miles on it, and it feels Great, sounds great, runs smooth. (guess there could be a problem still)

New motors with slow break-in cna use some on blowby. Beat on it a little more and see what happens, it might seat like Cody said.
