I think that is because I can easily recognise his face. I fail.

I'll have to try another one later at home.

Your data suggest a slight automatic preference for Old compared to Young

Your data suggest a moderate association of Male with Career and Female with Family compared to Female with Career and Male with Family.

That pretty much sums it up.

What's with all the people proud to find out they're homophobes? That's not a test to see if you prefer people of the same sex, it's a test to see if you think gay=bad or gay=good!

I felt kind of bad while doing the double column word association and the "bad" side was also the "gay" side. I kept thinking of the words and where they were going, "Terrible-gay, awful-gay, etc."

I know it seems like I must have oodles of spare time. But it's really not that hard to take a legitimate 10 minute break when you work from 9am to midnight, 6 days a week.

Ever wonder why I'm still online at 1 am? It's 'cause I'm probably still at the office.

Damn and I thought I was a slave driver....wait that doesn't mean I have some hidden master/slave thing does it.

I used to work like that, 7am to between 9pm and 1am, that blows. I don't think in a 7 year time span I worked less than 12hrs a day 6-7 days aweek. Now that I consult, I make my own hours, work from my own locations and they are lucky if I make it to the office a few hours a week. And the Gem Gallery lets me get in a 4 hr block of time 4 days a week, and pays me very well to do it.

What place do you work at Sperry? If you don't mind me asking.

Sperry,

Don't you think these tests are really a reflection of society as a whole? It's not that I think gay=evil or straight=good, I have a natural tendency to prefer straight people because as a child, thats what society taught us. I know several gay men and women, some of which I am very good friends with. Homophobe, probably when it comes to gay men, but only if they get to close. Maybe its my conservative views. I think the two tests I did take hit me perfectly, I might try and deny it, but I have to agree with it.

Wasn't there another Harvard test that used african american female children and caucasian female children and their tendencies towards which colored doll they preferred? 97% of the caucasian children picked white colored dolls, and 100% of the african american children picked white colored dolls.
Now mind you this test was done in the 60's but it still reflects society and their psyche at the time. (I don't know if this test was administered professionally or what, I just remember reading about it)

Just a thought.

I think the results are very much in line with society's views. But that doesn't make it right.

One thing to note however, these tests are designed to expose your underlying subconscience pre-dispositions. They do not label someone a homophobe, or a rasist, etc. They simply expose what your "natural" instinct is, whether it be "natural" or "societal" in origin.

My comment about people bragging about their homophobia stems not from the test results (of course most people in America will lean towards the gay=bad side because we're raised in a society that treats gays poorly), but from the fact that people are basically hi-fiving themselves for finding out they're subconsciencly pre-disposed to hating gays. IMO, finding out something like that should be more of an eye-opener and something that sparks some introspection about the color of the lenses through which you view the world.

I don't think I'm doing this right.

As soon as I clicked the URL in Scott's first post, it came up with a screen that says:

Your data suggests an automatic preference for Young Gay White Boys named George W. Bush
I'm not entirely comfortable with that assesment... And how do you tell that from just clicking a URL?

I had the same results, doing the weapons/harmless objects test. The associations started with weapons on the same side as African-Americans and harmless objects with European-Caucasians.

If I do the science/gender one, it's probably just going to make me mad.

I know you work crazy hours; I was thinking more of the internet access and the sitting down.

I did the young/old test last night. The impression I got was that the tests are flawed. It started me off with young-good, old-bad. By the time I got to the last part of the test, it had swapped sides and mixed the two around. At that point, I just started to get confused, forgetting which side was which. I dunno, maybe I was just tired, but it certainly wasn't association causing me to make mistakes.

This seems more like a video game that switches your control scheme at random than an actual test.

Yes, I'll fix it for you. Again.

What if we figured out how the test input was being interpreted during the session, and altered our timing and mistakes to mess with the results? ;-)

Sperry, I think your taking the responses on straight-to-gay preference a bit harsh.

If it makes you feel any better, many people have told me that they initially thought I was gay when they met me, and it doesn't bother me.

If you think I'm taking the responses harshly, then you're just reading too much into my replies. Remember, hyperbole is the bread-and-butter of the internet!

My point was simply to illustrate what the test results are intended to mean. That people who think their heterosexuality is being confirmed are actually being told they're pre-disposed to homophobia.
