Default Brake Bleeeed

Would anybody like to help me bleed my brakes this weekend? Sunday would be preferable since I should have my winter tires mounted on my freshly powder coated rims by Saturday afternoon.

Also, would anybody care to trade an unopened can of ATE 200 Brake Fluid for the ATE Blue? Or is it okay to use somthing else from Summit Racing or somthing? If not, I guess I could rush a can via teh intraweb gods.

It's not special, just better than OEM. Check out The last Brake fluid thread

The beed order on Subarus is unusual: RF LR LF RR.

Putting all 4 wheels in the air is also a good idea so the calipers are mostly level, and the bubbles can find the bleed holes.

Sweet! Now anybody have a garage? I have a slanted sidewalk I usually use, but I don't know if the slight lateral slant will affect the quality of the bleed.

Ez, I have a fresh unopened can of blue you can have for $15. That's what I paid for it and it's great stuff. Plus it's blue, so you really know when you have flushed the old stuff. The 32oz can is probably enough for your car and sombody elses. But if you're never going to track or autox, you can probably grab somthing at AutoZone or whatever and it will be cheaper.

Dean, sounds like a great deal! I'd be stoked if you can lend me a can of the gold. I'm going to have to find a good deal somewhere online and just buy a bunch. Any suggestions?

It's about $10/can to get ATE from StopTech if you order it a case at a time. But I'm guessing unless you plan on reselling the stuff, 10 bottles is way too much unless you've got multiple cars and plan on hitting the track frequently.

Nope. RF, then the left side of the car (LR, LF), and back to the RR.

I will take the blue, it is one of my favorite colors. I probably won't be taking it out on the track anytime soon soooo. I don't have a garage, I have a dirt lot that probably wouldnt be ok for a bleed, dust and all, but I have bled several other cars out here, chev truck, honda, ford etc... I do have access to a parking lot lol. I would ask my uncle, but his garage is full of 2004 Grand Am Pro Street Dragster right now. Let me know, I have a couple of grand jack stands and a nice floor jack.

Well if Dean doesn't volunteer his garage (assuming he has one) we can do it on my sidewalk. It's fine, I've done lots of modding on it. Cops even drive by and don't say anthing. Bring your jackstands and jack...I'm sure they're better than mine. I'm planning on picking up some clear tubing and a turkey baster before Sunday so we should be golden.

Sure, order two cases, and sell half the fluid.

...actually we did a group buy on fluid a while back. It turned into a cluster fuck with all the shipping issues, plus we did it through the shop. The price ended up being the same if we had just all ordered our own directly, 'cept I promised the fluid at $10/can, so I think I ended up losing like $30 or $40 on the deal. From now on, it's every man for himself! I just buy a case of the opposite color when I get down to 5 cans in my current case... 'course somehow I've got 1 can of Typ200, and 9 cans of Super Blue in my garage... I'm not quite sure how that happened.

The sharpy note in your garage is wrong. I knew I should never have listened to you when I had a diagram printed out.

The one thing i would add to the factory up/down instructions would be the most importand thing when doing a bleed IMHO, the last close of the screw.

I always suggest that the screw be closed while the asisstant pumps the pedal a couple times and then puts pressure on it. The wrench jockey then quickly opens and closes the screw stoping the pedal in the neighborhood of 1/2 way down.

I get consistantly good bleeds when done this way.

That makes a lot of sense. I'm assuming you mean, "the last close of [each] screw," right? Each corner should be done that way correct?

I may be willing to purchase some of said fluid from you, as I plan on installing stainless flex lines soon, and upgrading the fluid at the same time.

Lemme know! And I haven't forgotten you for Saturday! You'll get a call as soon as I clear up!

Well, I couldn't wait until Sunday to have my brakes checked, I was flying to work this morning about 8am and had a near miss with a Durango. They went from squishy straight to the floor. That was quite exciting I might add. They had pressure when I first pressed them then the pressure just bled off. No leaks, and even with pumping they would not stay pressureized. So I called the place I bought the car from and let them know, since its covered by warranty from them I took it back so they could check it out.

I told them the problem, which the mechanic there said immediately, I don't think its just air in the lines, sounds like a master cylinder to me. So he replaced the master cylinder and replaced the fluid and bled the lines. I picked it up about 6:30pm its amazing how fast you can stop when you have immediate response.

Any way, Cody I will still help you on Sunday, I just need to know where and when. I probably won't need the blue right away, but I will be looking for an after market Master cylinder, since I know the new one is from Napa, and the brake fluid is Auto Zone Heavy Duty. But hey I didn't have to pay for it and hehe...it is nice to stop!
