Default Reno SCCA 2007

Today I was reading the SCCA news letter. I guess this is the time of year when they start looking at all the regulations and if they'll be making any changes. Something about street tire was put up as a topic for later discussion. Anybody know if they are planning any big changes with how street time or the time mod will work? Thanks D-

2007 PAX Street tire handicap is region-specific and tbd.

Yikes , SM and BSP are up big.

I don't think our local street tire pax factor will be changing next season. It seems to be one of the things that's working well.

Wow, SM went up more than any other class! The wrong guy won't win pax next year!!!

It looks like AM, BM and CM are the same, EM is the only one that went down, everything else went up.

The man has lost his mind.

But then again, the problem is that there aren't enough AM cars to make it a meaningful baseline anymore.

I think he should start using HS as his base at 1.0 and make everything else 1.xxx

Yeah, BSP and SM got harder because the AWD cars are doing well, especially in BSP. Oh well, we just have to drive faster next year. Maybe some of the other SCCA powers can shut up about the altitude now, as the PAX factors are very difficult now in SM and BSP

I'm with Dean. Why use one of the smallest classes as the baseline? What happens if the two or three guys that really make up AM have a bad year? Why not use a big class with a lot of different winners to determine the benchmark of how fast a car can make it through a Solo course?

Some of these are obvious improvements to me -- GS (Minis) should have had a harder pax in 2006. CS got harder because the Solstice will remain in that class, and it is a fast car right off the bat -- let alone another year of preparation.

A good number of SM cars grew wings this year at Nats, which are purported to add another eenth to their performance in general. Matt's observation about BSP is right on, the Evo is showing much promise to be dominant on an asphalt surface.

Maybe some of you guys ought to think about stepping over to STU?

No boost changes are allowed in STU, which will probably keep a lot of people in BSP or SM.

Just because AM is 1.000 doesn't mean the numbers are based off the performance of AM. You can easily leave HS, or SM, or any other high volume class alone, then adjust all the other factors to match. Then normalize the numbers so AM is 1.000.

While I agree with you in principle mathmatically, since Rick never publishes where these numbers come from we have no way of knowing what if any math these numbers are based on. It also requires more work to do what you describe which is another reason I doubt Rick does it that way which is wy I made my original comment.

I also think math with numbers > 1.0 is easier than numbers < 1.0 for most people so using the slowest class as a baseline might make the math easier to understand/do.

Again, we can all complain as much as we want including myself, but until something better comes along, it is what it is...

Does the 2007 schedule get talked about at the SCCA monthly meeting or is it just a board member's thing? How does the process work? I picture a large calendar projected at the wall with a bunch of folks looking at it plugging in dates and looking for conflicts with other events. Has anyone heard about possibly two Squaw Valley events next year (not that Squaw was that kind to me). There is also another lot more to the west that I think may be good for the Squaw event.

I'm really just typing to give Scott something to read and then comment on.

No useful comments from me.

MattR is the Solo Director this season, he'll have the right answers. I believe the schedule is "done" but not published yet... but I missed the last meeting so I don't really know where we stand.

Is setting a goal of a top 10 in PAX next year to high a goal for the wagon?

Matt has a schedule prepared, but we're waiting a few more months regarding some stuff coming from other regions (specifically SFR and LVR) before we put dates and event types in stone.

And I think a top 10 goal for you is reasonable. Heck, I'm shooting for top 10 overall from FSP if I can get a decent suspension before the season starts.

I'll put up a tentative schedule when I get home tonight. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but it's probably safe to at least start plannning around.

Since we are talking about next season, let's get a "Who's in what class" discussion going...

I'll be running in BSP / F125.
