It doesn't take much to "pop an engine out" in an impact. They're generally held onto crossmembers by only 2 bolts, right at the bottom of the engine.

Just Reminds me of the wreck I got into back in '91 (6th & Wells) Some Idiot crossed in Front of me Northbound from overpass onto 6th st, while I was southbound onto the overpass and when my truck struck his old truck(pre '70's) his bed flew off a few hundred Yards away.. lol
