Yeah it's a done deal, I don't like the decision, but if you thought vet vs. web was ugly, just wait for 2014 with these two.

If someone can wrangle the personalities of the two, I think it'll be a potent combination.

But, the probability for lulz seems so high. I guess we'll see what happens over the next two years.

Maybe Hulkenberg and Massa will both end up at Lotus then. I'd be a huge Lotus fan with those two guys there. And Grosjean can go crash Hulkenberg's old Sauber for a season or two.

The BBC article says the popular thinking is that Hulkenberg will go to Lotus.

So... what happens to Massa? I think that aside from maybe Mercedes, every other team would benefit from Massa's experience at Ferrari, especially with a radically new car next year that will involve rapid development throughout the season.

Massa > Ricciardo, Perez, Grosjean, and all the drivers from the smaller teams.

I can get that Massa's career is likely winding down, so it would be harder to justify signing him to a long term contract. But with a dev season in 2014, I would think tons of teams would be chomping at the bit to sign him for a 1 or 2 year deal. I wonder if Massa just costs too much... Ferrari was probably paying him handsomely.

I wonder if Massa just ends up staying on at Ferrari as a 3rd driver?

That would be awesome.

Does Vettel have traction control?

I just can't comprehend why it would only be on Vettle's car. Although I guess I could be on Webber's car. I can see Mark's car being a prototype, and Sebastian's being closer to a advanced version.

Maybe Mark refuses to cheat?

There is some interesting speculation(conspiracy) in the comments here. They also went over it back in June here with a good shot of what their tires were laying down.

I think there has been a bit of a falling out.

Kimi is already driving for Ferrari even though he's still in the Lotus cockpit. Holding up Grosjean helped his new team in the constructor's championship.

No wonder Kimi is pissed... apparently Lotus hasn't bothered to pay him.

http://www.gpupdate.net/en/f1-news/3...p-final-races/

Quote:
Kimi Räikkönen has fired a warning shot to Lotus that he could choose to sit out the final two races of the season in the United States and Brazil if the Enstone-based outfit does not find a solution to its ongoing financial problems.

Räikkönen, whose relationship with the team was strained further amid the radio drama at the Indian Grand Prix, revealed in Abu Dhabi on Friday that he has "not been paid a Euro" all season, with the Finn coming close to skipping this weekend's race.

Speaking to reporters at the Yas Marina Circuit, Räikkönen said: "I came here only because, hopefully, we have found an understanding on the issues we have been having. Hopefully it will be fixed and we can finish the season as well as we can."

When asked if he would consider missing the remaining two races, the former World Champion added: "For sure. I enjoy racing but a big part of it is business. Sometimes when that is not dealt with like it should be then we end up in an unfortunate situation.

"You have to put the line somewhere. If it goes over that then it is not really my fault."

Räikkönen, who was eager to stress that his missed payments are more of a factor than the heated radio discussion at Buddh, went on to explain that he has been slightly hurt by suggestions that he is putting himself above the interests of the team.

"Sometimes it is not very nice when you hear that you are not a team player, and you don't have the interests of the team, but you have been paid zero Euro the whole year," said Räikkönen, who is due approximately 15 million pounds from the squad.

"It doesn't put you in the best place, but that is how it goes. Hopefully, like I said, we have found an understanding on how we should deal with the situation right now."

Wow! That surprises me that that wasn't dealt with earlier in the season. Somehow, Lotus has figured out how to do a lot with very little if this is true. I had no idea their finances were that tight.

Nah, they had an extra 15 million euros to use. Practically cheating.

How much is it going to suck next season when they're still paying Kimi the 15M they owe him without getting his talent behind the wheel.

Vettel mocks Kimi, then his team tells him he can pay the fine for doing post-race donuts.

This is the best thing I've seen in F1. Vettel has a great sense of humor

I don't follow F1 all that closely, but moments like that make it hard for me to hate him for his success.

Yeah, great news for Massa, I hope he can find some spark again. With the new rules package and Mercedes Benz engines next year at Williams, maybe there is hope?

Looks like Heikki Kovalanien will be filling in for Raikkonen for the last two races of the season while Kimi goes and gets some back surgery early (originally planned for the offseason).
