Default New OEM oil filters... Are they good?

I noticed that Subaru changed to a new oil filter. they said this one is made in Canada, and that it is as good quality as the black ones it just cuts down on manufacturing costs. That maybe true, but the new ones feel really cheap and is it me or are they getting smaller and smaller? i was just wondering if anybody has used these on their STi, or if anybody has heard any issues of people using these? Also if anyone knows how they compare to the black ones filtration and performance wise? What oil filters are you guys running? thanks

I haven't heard anything but bad stuff about the new ones... and I hated the black ones anyway, because they leaked.

Interesting fact: Nissan factory 350z oil filter is made by the same manufacturer that Subaru used to use, and fits all EJ motors. In fact, aftermarket filters (Napa, Wix, etc.) most all have the same replacement filter for Subaru and 350. High burst pressure, good anit-drainback valve, and really good filtration. I use them on my car, and Emily has one on her car too. Part Number: 15208-65F00 Retail price $7.00

From what I found, the new Blue filters are the same as Fram...

I would avoid them like the plague...

I can't find the great comparison of a bunch of Subaru oil filters dang it...

I did find a link that shows a whole bunch of oil filters cut open and taken apart. It doesnt have a comparison, but i guess some of the pictures speak for themselves.

I switched to Purolator Pure 1 from Pep Boys. They're like $6 IIRC and they have a nice texture put onto them for easy removal. Oh, and they're Sonic Yellow!!!

But seriously, I heard good things about them. Any thoughts?

I skimmed that whole thread before I bought the Purolator. Nothing in that thread seemed to provide any findings that even remotely indicate which one is best. But supposedly the first oil filters that I was getting from an online Suby Pats Dept (dealer) for my car were rebranded Pure Ones so I'm sticking with them. They're cheap to boot.

That oil filter comparison is almost as accurate as throwing 2 rolls of toilet paper down the street and saying the longer one is better. We need to see which is using better filter material and also that relief spring plays a big role in how much of that oil is even being filtered. Quilted is always better!

If you can't find the sticky unibomber tech threads on Nasioc, you fail at the interwebs and your license to surf will be revoked.

I just looked back at them and I remember reading those links years ago. Half of them are broken and there is kind of conflicting information in the others. The paranoid Fab. article says that the Bosch filter is second best while another article says its now garbage because its made over seas with inferior parts. Some of those articles seem old and perhaps the information is no longer valid.
