Please keep threads specific to one particular vendor.

Start the thread simply with the vendor's name, and either review them or ask questions about them in the first post.

Please keep hearsay to a minimum, information from first-hand experiences is far more valuable than "I heard that so-and-so got screwed by those guys".

Also, if you're reviewing a vendor, please try to include their contact information.

How about starting a thread on specific aftermarket parts reviews? I think that would help people who are inquiring about buying certain parts? Where would you like us to post those there big BOSS?

Edit: Wait, I think I know what you're asking. If you want to review a product, create a thread for it. If you want to ask about a type of product, like say Cold Air Intakes, create a thread for the product type asking for advice. There's no real reason to try to cram all that into a single thread... it makes searching for info way more difficult.

Sweet I'll be writing about all of my new engine rebuild parts one thread at a time. Minus the failed oil pump which potentially caused bearing failure. I'll just go ahead and leave that one out for the sake of all the F bombs.....

Actually, that sort of stuff would probably fit better in a build thread in the tech forum. People are going to be way more interested in an on-going thread about a build than a bunch of one-off reviews of parts.

I want to hear about parts that fail. That's far more valuable than another glowing part review that really only reflects the buyer's need to justify the amount of money they just spent.

Well my build was never on going per say because I just purchased a shit ton of parts and the guys who are building my engine slapped them on.......I didn't do the build myself so it would be much better heard from them. As for the failed oil pump, that is still speculation at this time and the only evidence we have that that was the cause came from my oil pressure gauge that kept dropping to zero causing some sort of engine fail safe to cut the engine. However the engine block has not been cracked open yet just the supporting parts have been removed. The oil change with more metal than usual in it for a break in is what has led my builders to speculate bearing failure at a minimum. As far as the parts review....I am a very honest person who always speaks the truth even if it makes myself look bad. So I wouldn't be trying to hype up a product based upon how much I paid for it or the brand name haha. Just pure honesty. If I buy a product and it's not that great then live and learn is the approach. It happens to us all. However if someone lies about a product to save face then then if someone else buys that product based off a positive review and it is a bad product then the whole saving face thing created even more problems. It's best to always be tastefully truthful even if some people get hurt feelings. As long as you mean't well and just wanted to help then it is never a bad thing to vioce the truth in my opinion. Running from the truth is like trying to run from your shadow...........you can turn to face the light so it cannot be seen, but it will always be right behind you ; )

The oil pump is an incredibly simple device direct driven by the crank itself. I would be stunned to find out how one could fail. There is one passage that might be a overpressure bypass, but I think if that failed, it would stay failed if that is even what it is.

It will be interesting to see what you find.

Exactly. The guys working on my engine are going to take apart the pump to see. They think it might have been the bypass valve also but will have a better idea after they do that and open the block up to see how extensive the damage to the pistons and the rest of the internals is.

It is an unfortunate happening but they are good guys and will get it up and running as fast as they can. Hopefully my turbo is ok (hta fp red ball bearing) which we think it's fine. Other than that replacing an oil pump and other pumps is not that big of a deal compared to the pistons, rods, and turbo. Not to meantion re-machining the engine. But we think it is not that extensive. Luckily the majority of supporting parts that totaled around 12k are not damageable by lack of oil. But if my turbo and internals are f'd then the bill could be quite close to half of the total cost of the build.............However I'm thinking positive as are my builders and it's not likely that is the case. My car didn't seize up or anything like that and there was no "knocking" noises. All that happened was my oil pressure gauge kept dropping to zero and the engine was cutting out. I made it to work, (about 4 miles at very low rpm) parked it, towed it to their spot and they have been taking it apart ever since. Fingers crossed guys!

So my builders took apart the engine and found that the bearings were worn down badly (but weren't spun) and the crank a bit as well. The bypass valve on the oil pump was stuck which caused slight oil starvation. Luckily nothing major happened and the pistons, rods, turbo and such are fine. The oil pump, bearings, and crank will be replaced and possibly a few other minor things. The news could have been much much worse!
