Default May 22-23 @ Salt Lake: Audi Event

2 Day Driving School and Safety Seminar at Second Creek / Miller Motorsports Park Park near Salt Lake City, Utah...

The longest track in the west/US?

4.5 Miles, 24 turns...
$395 for two days including first night banquet...

More details and registration: http://www.audiclubrmc.org/Events/DrivingSchool/MMP/

Should be a blast.

How much tread should my tires have left before attending this event ? And how much tread loss will occur ? (any reasonable guess is fine) i'm on RE070s .
I'm guessing after 2 more autocrosses , they won't be suitable to attend a driving school on.

2 Track days use much less tire than a day of autocrossing.

Don't know if you have already booked your hotel, but I will probably stay elsewhere to save 30 bucks or so a night on a room. Expedia $42 rate looking good so far.

Should not be an issue, as it is "normal" for inverted shocks...

Make sure to mention to the techs to torque your lugs to the correct spec. At every Audi event I have been to; they torque the lugs to around 90'# which can equal "oh snap" in a subaru.

Alex, get Cory to look at the car, and put a business card on it at the meet. Tech done...

Germans over-engineer everything. Not that I have a problem with that.

I can have Cory tech the car ? Sweet. I'm gonna owe him drinks or food twice now. So that nissan dealership sells audis too?

and that's a relief on the noise. its really really bad on the street i live on, kahle needed repairs like 4 years ago, and they installed a 'warning rough road' sign to fix the problem.

(and yes i'm overly excited )

Germans use lug bolts mostly, 12x1.5 instead of the Subaru 12x1.25 studs. The former are probably stronger, but a PITA.

Typical torqueing for 1.25 is about 65-80 ft*lbs, whereas 1.5s run 90-105ft*lbs.

Shit... now I'm undertorquing my Miata lugs. Well, when I use a torque wrench anyway. Most of the time I've just thrown the breaker bar on there and used German torque spec since the torque wrench is in Matt's trunk usually.

The Miata is speced at 62-85 I think even though it is a 12x1.5. I use 75 the same as the Subarus.

Maybe the difference in torque is bolt vs. nutand/or 4 vs. 5 lug...

Yeah, since my wheels are hubcentric, I'd rather slightly undertorque them than over torque. And if they haven't fallen off at RFR or Stead at 80 ft/lbs yet, I'm sure I'm okay there from now on.

I have a set of 12X1.5 locking Lug Nuts BTW (came with some rims i ordered for my old WRX) obviously they didn't fit. so i got some new lugs over nighted for free. (if that fits one of the miatas or something)

Yeah, the Miata is 12x1.5. Bring them to the next meet or autocross you go to, I'll check 'em out.

so the Audi driving event @ the track Rocked !!! Lots of fun! only now I feel like i'm addicted to track . loads of fun. i really liked turn 7 (double apex left ) . Turns 16-18 are a fun S / feels like a slalom. and of course 23 going onto the large straight away ! I definatly feel that i learned a lot while there.

oh On my way back from Utah yesterday i couldn't resist pulling off of 80 and onto the salt flats for a little drive around. I had never been out on the flats before. first i walked around becuase i kept thinking the flat would be more sandy and soft. but its very hard and has way higher traction then i thought. i was sliding my car around and quickly noticed i was leaving huge tire marks on the salt i think i lost more tread 5 minutes of salt drifting then i did 2 days of track driving.

now my car really really needs a wash .

I'm bringing video for tonight if we get our room...

It was a blast. First class facility in the works. ALMS is there soon, and if there was ever a place to hold a F1 race in the US, this may well be it.

And you thought the front straight at RFR was fast... I almost needed 6th in my stock STI, and I wasn't even really trying...

Fortunately it ends in a nice sweeping left hander with tons of runoff.

Maybe i was shifting too early ? I had set my shift light/beep to 6K so i wouldn't have to look at my tac. I had a few laps where i heard the beep far enough before the braking zone , so i was shifting into 6th and going WOT for some moments (hard to tell exactly how long)

how far up (RPM Wise) were you taking 5th ? Course i also had one lap where i went to about the rev limiter in 5th. (the first lap that i stayed on the gas after hearing beeps in 5th, i was coasting the last 1/10 of the straight away most of monday) As i just didn't think i could stay on the throttle as long as i was able to .
