2007 GCR is out.
2007 Solo Rules are not out.
2007 TimeTrials supplementals are not out yet.

If you want rules for TimeTrials safety, a good starting place is the GCR:

http://www.scca.com/_FileLibrary/File/GCR2007.pdf

...the TT rules are based on the GCR, so if you're legal for SCCA Club Race, you'll be legal for TT. But there are probably some things in the GCR you won't need to be TT legal, esp. when it comes to rules for convertibles.

Can somebody help me clear this? In the 2007 rule said "Helmets: Snell Foundation standards (SA, K, or M) are acceptable". But it did not say what year? Is it standard of 10 years old? So minimum 1997? I have Snell K98 Helmet. I might do some auto-x and some PDX.

I have to read more about convertible with stock roll bars and harness.

Read the whole sentence...
Quote:
All helmets meeting the current or two immediately preceding Snell Foundation standards (SA, K, or M), or SFI standards 31.1A, 31.2A, 41.1A, or 41.2A are acceptable.
The current standard is 2005, so that means 2000 and 1995 are legal.

Actually, I was wrong. K-98 is actually the current standard for K helmets.

Anybody know if the Reno SCCA had a meeting this month? I wanted to know how much the street tire modifier was discussed if any.

It doesn't look like the street tire modifier is changing.

Now that you trailer your baby to the track, would you think of running race tires? I just did not want to change tires before and after every day.

Changing wheels is not harder than loading and unloading a car off a trailer.

I can't afford race tires for both autocross and track. And I'll stick to race tires for trials since there is no street tire class, which means it's street tires for me at autocross.

Frankly, I think with AWD, there is an advantage to street tires. It's much harder to run out of grip when all four tires are powered meaning I have a lower loss percentage than something like a corvette that's trying to put down the same amount of power through just two tires.

Points that raised my attention when reading the Reno SCCA minutes and news letter. Mesuring the decible level at events, increasing street tire adjustment(thx Scott) and novice moving into a class (number of events before changing over).

Due we have any equipment to measure decible levels? I think the loudest car has to be the red (Toyota/Datsun). Don't know what my car would register.

Some of the Corvette folks must have loved the idea of increasing the street tire handicap.

I agree with the restriction on the Novice class.

I don't believe anyone in the meeting raised a point about increasing (making more favorable) the street tire multiplier, I believe Mark raised a point that it may be too high (too favorable); but I think that point among others went on the list that the Board of Directors are reviewing for possible bylaw changes, and I don't believe the handicap will change this year (as already stated).

Yes, we have a sound meter. I can't remember if anyone remembers where it is though. Matt, Scott, wasn't there a call for an equipment manager or Chief of Equipment, or some such role? This would be the person to keep track of things like this. We also have scales, though they are seldom used, but as I understand it, club members could use them if requested and approved.

All of that stuff is on the bus, according to Dave Deborde.

I think for most people, race tires are still at a slight advantage over street tires. Especially with the RWD cars. I think since the AWD cars have so much more accelration traction, they aren't quite able to use all their race tires, so they benefit a little more than the corvettes for example, on the street tires. But even then, I think the race tire folks still have the slight advantage... which is the goal of the street tire modifier. Back when the factor was calculated, empirical evidence indicated that race tires were 2.5/60 seconds faster than street tires, and the factor was set at 2.0/60 seconds to keep race tires a little faster. Since then, both race and street tires have gotten better. I think the street tires have gotten a little more better than the race tires, but not .5s worth. The majority of the board feels this is true, so it looks like the street tire modifier is going to remain .968, and we will continue to run street tire/race tire integrated classes.

Next season will be interesting with regards to street tires... since some long-time competitive street tire folks are switching to race tires... but I'm not naming names, since I don't remember if they've made the switch public or not yet. I think we'll see how good the factor really is before season's end.

Anybody need help with their itch? I'm going down to Golden Gate Fields on the 25 for autocross. Check out the view. It may help in the short term but April is coming fast.
