We should use something like this instead of voting. Just do a census every 4 years where everyone answers a bunch of questions about how they want the country run, then all the candidate's scores are matched against the US average, and the closest candidate wins.

Make it a large pool of candidates for each possible "demographic", or whatever you want to call it, with the winner being selected randomly from among that particular selected pool, and I'd be all for that. That's the only method that could eliminate business & special interest lobbying, simply because they couldn't know who would win by polling beforehand.

As stupid as it sounds, I think we'd probably come out ahead if we just randomly picked our leaders rather than our current process.

Although it looks like they have a pretty straightforward graph. From what I was reading in the explaination I think this graph reflects my personal score more than my Economic score, but whever. I give more thought to free trade than abortion.

I think I've been the opposite of most people in the progression of my political leanings. I used to be ridiculously conservative when I was younger, say in high school.. now I've loosened up a lot and am pretty much in the middle in my old age. I guess that's the real world effect too, ideals from either the right or left get beaten out of you.

To be honest, I think people's political views are directly influenced by the amount of money and/or power they have. If you're doing well, you're conservative... after all why change what's not broken, whereas if you're broke or powerless, well something has to change.

Actually, I found that quiz to be pretty biased towards Liberal-Libertarian. The wording and types of questions, along with the analysis style and undertones suggest that they weren't looking for answers to open questions. They use hot-button issues, but fail to include options on important details. Some of the giveaways were:

"Abortion is a Woman's Right" vs. taking both sides in the question, such as "Abortion: Woman's Right or Premeditated Murder?"
"Reduce use of coal, oil, & nuclear energy" --- apples and oranges, I say. Oil and coal have nothing in common with nucs except hot water!
"Immigration Helps Our Economy - Encourage It" --- What about legal immigration + assimilation vs. illegal/subversive activity?

Good Points, I noticed a few of the questions glazed over issues, like the immigration one, it leaves out options. I think it does lean a little bit to one side, but...

No one said it's scientific... however all the questions were the same for all of us, and I'd say the results are pretty much matching up to what I know about everyone's political views.

I don't fully get the concept of a populist myself, since this is the first time I can recall ever encountering the term, but the good ol' dictionary sez, "supporter of ordinary people: an advocate of the rights and interests of ordinary people, for example, in politics or the arts."

Ya but it's grad school. Besides bitch, which one of us owns our own home? I've been a member of the Green Party since I could vote. It'll probably never change. I'm liberal socially and don't care economically because I believe I can make myself rich regardless.
