Take off the CAI would be my first recommendation.

There are a number of tuners in CA, but none really in Reno. Ed occasionally comes up and does some road tunes. I'd look through the Vendor review and communications forums. Lots of opinions and such there.

Engenuity/Rom Raider is an open source alternative to AP, but you would need to find a tuner willing to use it. COBB frowns on Tuners who do both apparently.

I'd also suggest using capital letters occasionally.

Yeah, you might want to lose the intake until you can get tuned for it.

I'd go for some suspension bits next, if you haven't yet. A set of moderate springs and sway bars are a good first step.

You guys don't even bother to ask which CAI it is before the intake bashing starts now?

the cai is an injen. the previous owner gave it to me with the car (i installed it) it lowers my temps significantly. im not looking to be flamed im just asking for help. all i want to know is if there are any good tuners with in 50 miles of reno and which EM to use if i chose to get one instead of just a reflash.

Come get your exhaust out of my yard.

Opensource is the cheapest way.

Didn't Scott have an AP for sale for a good price?

Lower intake temps means denser air which means lean condition which is bad.

There are no pro tuners for Subaru within 100 miles that I know of. Ed from EQ Tuning comes up here occasionally to do road tunes.

Accessport is the favorite EM on this forum for lots of good reasons. If you cannot afford one your only real choice is Romraider (formerly Enginuity) freeware along with a $79 Tactric cable, a laptop and buying some off-the-shelf stage maps for it. Some shop somewhere sells these maps, but I can't remember who.

I am not an intake basher like many Subie people... BUT be careful with off-the-shelf stage maps with the Injen CAI though. It is known to run lean so it prolly works nicely with the stock pig-rich tuning, but with Stage 1 A/F ratios is will be very lean and possibly dangerous. If you get custom tuned then it will be fine.

This not true in any way whatsoever at all. The factory intake is a "cold air intake" after all. The MAF (mass airflow) sensor measures the *mass* of the airflow so it pretty immune to temperature changes. Also there is a temp sensor with it anyway. The usual reason that *some* intakes run lean is because of the tube diameter the MAF sensor is installed in (and sometimes the location of the sensor in the tube also and sometimes turbulence issues too). If the tube ID is bigger than 65mm then the calibration of the intake changes and this causes some lean out (likewise smaller than 65mm causes a richening). Sometimes this lean-out is done on purpose by manufacturers because it increases power on stock relatively-rich tuning. This is prolly the case with the Injen CAI which leans out a WRX/STI by about 1% A/F ratio and that's quite a bit.

I stand corrected.

XPT is the company that makes the Romraider maps.
