So I just picked up a set of 18x10 DPT's, +35 wrapped in 285/35/18, and some BC Racing coilovers, w/ the whiteline rear camber kit for the 08 STI.. I dont plan on slamming the car but put a nice drop on it since it's my daily.. Am I going to have to do anything else to make these fit without having to go with a lot of negative camber? I expect to do a roll. Maybe just have the bottom of the fender sit right at the top of the tire? I dont want it tucked.
Idea's?

You're going to have to apply a lot of love to your fenders. With a bat. Then you're going to have to run retarded amounts of camber.
A 285 on an 18x10 ET35 is a huge amount of rubber, right out on the fender. Sorry, them's the facts. Hell, my buddy had to roll his rear fenders to keep from rubbing at stock height, with the wheels I'm selling, and those sit 1/2" inboard, and were running a 245. Herrafrush is not a game I like playing........too many compromises on a DD car. I'm sure you can make it fit, but you're going to have to go to smaller tires, more camber than you want, destroy your fenders, lift your car, or a combo of all 4. Not trying to be a dick, I wish you luck.......but that's a lot of wheel to buy and *then* ask how to make it fit.

Yea I just saw so many people saying that they didn't have problems putting their 18x10's on their 08's. But now I'm noticing they all had about 265's. Looks like I'll be doing some research. Or taking it to KSpeed.

Maybe with...
- Fender rolling - Adjustable rear control arms - Camber plates all 4 corners - Possible camber bolts also - Aggressive but acceptable negative camber Maybe... Cory was able to get 265's on an RS, and Ray was able to get 275's on an 05 STI like this.

Well after researching today I'm for sure getting a 265. 285 is just going to be too much work.. Then hopefully that works..

I seem to always fail.
So I did a test fitment on another 08 tonight with the wheels.. Holt balls they stick out more than I thought. But I think I can get away with a 265 and not have to do a pull. Just a roll.. they clear the coilovers pretty good too. ![]() ![]()

If you had extremely high spring rates, they wouldn't rub right?

Theoretically, yes... but we're talking about springs so stiff, it'd basically be a car without any useful suspension. What do you think a car with less than 1/2" full suspension travel would ride like?

Crazy .. 255's fit great in my stock 05 STI, did the 08s get rid of some tire clearance room or what?

The 285 is 1.2 inches wider, plus the offset is around .8 inches closer to the fender. So, at a minimum, that tire will need like 1.5" more fender clearance than your '05 Sti.

Ah this is not totally true. You cant say it is 1.2" wider it all depends on the brand tire. Gus has 285 yes however he came over with a wheel and his tire is significantly narrower then my 275 toyo r888. they are more like my 265 advans. Either way he will have a hard time fitting them because the wheel off set not so much the tire size. I can run a 305 with my widebody with the right offset wheel however i am having troubles running 275 without rubbing because i have a 10.5 +22 wheel. By the looks of the picture you posted i would get a less tall tire, a "265", loads of camber, and a fender roller. Or you can do what reid did to his evo and flair the rear fenders. I think pancho charged him like 500$ and you can fit those 285 no problem with stock camber in the rear and a little more -camber in the front.

The fact is, because of the way math works, 285/35/18 on a 18x10+35 requires almost 1.5" more fender side clearance than a 255/40/17 on a 17x8+55.

In general a 285 tire will measure 285mm wide on the rim size it was designed for. The width is almost always the sidewall width, not the tread width, but on lower and lower profile tires the tread width approaches the sidewall width. At least that's the way it was at Michelin when I worked there. If it is narrower than 285 then it probably meant for a wider rim.
