Just left there this morning, they had this little dude on sale, jack. Just thought I'd let people know, also 5 gallon air tank $30, and Rebco Pressure gauges $20 (we used these for our racing, albeit the 0-15 psi version)
Also, Scott, here is a proficient welding "kit" 130 amps should be able to weld around 3/8" steel no problem. I would say, for-go the extras (cart and such) and just buy the one with the highest amperage while still maintaining 120v, (electricity is expensive!) You're first project should be a welder cart anyways. One more thing, the jack was pretty low profile.

That reminds me, I was in Walbogs the other day, and they had electric jacks for about $55! They plug into your accessory outlet like the compressor pumps. Very tempting, they would work well in places the jack wont work, like gravelly parking lots.

It's a bottle-jack type, the base doesn't move. It probably would fit under the car if it fits under the siderail.

I don't get it. Why would a bottle jack be better on gravel? It has a smaller base than a floor jack. I mean, it would be easier to position, but wouldn't it sink?
Could it lift the front of an Impreza? |

I said "gravelly" not "gravel." Aluminum jacks like most of us have suck ass when rocks are binding up the rollers. But it would probably work in gravel too as long as it was fairly solid dirt wit only a little gravel on top. And yes, it could lift an Impreza. It owuld have to lift 5000+ pound cars I would expect.

I have as yet to see a bottle jack that is short enought to fit under any sporty car. And unless you really want to bork your jack points, you need to distribute the load with a block of wood or soething which makes clearance worse...

And you don't need to use a bloack of wood or anything if you use the fatory jack points. Take a look at the OE jack sometime, it's fine if your jack has a slot for the seam weld.

I've been very hapy with my "Truck Air" compressor.(About $40) I burned up 2-3 of the cheepy compressors but the Truck air has lasted 5+ years so far. I'm not a big fan of the tanks...

I so almost bought that jack at wallmart the other day. i belive they were asking $59 ish for it. i ended up deciding on a 2.5 ton jack with a 16" lift so i could just jack up one end at a time. but you don't know how tempted i was to buy the eletric and be super lazy ... i still kinda regret not buying it. but i wanted to save the $30 and got a jack for $30 that comes with a carrying case... (damn the chineese!)
