Oh yeah! This is true also. Oil change - $125 on average.

However, the engine and tranny are extremely reliable on these cars, but point is very well taken. Suspension and brake mods tend to be about the same as subaru, but touch the engine and ouch!. A new replacement motor from the factory for my car ($25,000 min.) Even a used motor from a salvage company will run me $10,000! Fortunately most porsche motors are good for 200,000 plus (don't do the math on $125 oil changes every 3,000 miles)

11 quarts of synthetic.
Exactly!!! but as long as you drive the car and take good care of it(Which sounds like you do) .. you should be ok .. (Ofcourse this applies to any vehicle).. It's when you let them sit for a while that you run into problems

.Ps: Excellent choice of color ..

Yes Boo, you must drive them. I used mine as my daily driver for over three years including 2 winters here in Truckee. The car performed incredibly in the snow and never caused me any problems. In fact most of the costs I have incurred on the car are from my own doing (suspension etc.).

If you are seriously considering, let me know, I have a bunch of websites I can lead you to and start shopping. If your looking next year, you should definately go to the German Autofest (see other post). They had some incredible deals at that show, including a black version of my car with only 38,000 miles that sold in the first hour of the show for $28,000.

I already know that the Evo will have slightly better performance but in 10 years when the Evo is just another used mitsubishi the Porsche will still be revered as a cool car and will still have a decent resale value. So do I go for the cool for right now barn burner or the cool now and always well handler? Hmmm.....
I dunno, I've never been a big fan of Porsche. They are nice cars, but they never really did much for me. I'd much rather have the EVO. I think you should just buy whatever car you will enjoy more. If you will be happier behind the wheel ripping down the road in an MR buy it, if you want to impress the ladies at the retirement community get the 911. My $.02.

Damn, 10 years really isn't that long of a life for a vehicle if you take care of it... it sounds like you guys go through cars like toilet paper. Even the Mustang is coming up on 10 years old here soon...

My friend is 21 and I think he is on his 12th or 13th car. Some people just don't keep cars for long.

Are you kidding me? That's an average of 2.6 cars/year assuming he started at 16. Why the hell would you ever do that?

Porsche = the ultimate road car. Torque, power, handling, brakes, looks, reliability, prestige... you really do get what you pay for. And as far as keeping them for a long time, I think the only reason that some people sell them, is because they're buying a better one from the dealer.

Nick's C4 is *awesome*... he gave me a ride. Lemme tell you, my WRX is faster and handles better, but that Porsche still has it beat... it's still the better car, by *a lot*. Someday I'll have an AWD Porsche.... someday.

Yeah I like C4's too.. and if there was a way to buy a new 1989 944 Turbo"s" .. I would do it in a heart beat.. I love that car... I got the chance to drive a really nice one and WOW let me tell you... power to weight distribution was phenominal!!! Even for the yester years..

He works at a car dealer. So he buys a car drives it to work everyday and if someone makes him a good offer, he sells it and buys another.

I hope he lives in Nevada (or Michigan) because that's illegal as hell in CA.

I asked him tonight, 18 cars.

It's not illegal Kevin, he works at a dealer. Some of the cars he just leaves on dealer plates.

If he is the dealer, that's a different story. But in CA car salesmen aren't allowed to sell vehicles they own on dealership property, it's called curbstoning. It protects the dealer more than it protects the public actually. Keeps shady salesmen from saying "hey, I can't go any lower than this on that car, but I have this other car I want to unload that I'll sell you cheap..."

He's the sales manager and the owner doesn't care.
