Deal, did somebody say Deal? Oh, Dean, yeah that's me.
Default Anybody have an oscilloscope?

I have a bunch of unlabeled inductors stripped out of old power supplies that it would be nice to know what they are and as far as I know, an oscilloscope with a sine wave generator is the easiest method to determine that.

I am contemplating building another better desulfator or two and would like to use some of the spare parts I have lying around.

I don't think I've ever seen a post that proclaimed "unemployed and loving it" as much as this one does.

Don't have an oscilloscope, sorry.

You guys just wish you knew how to use an oscilloscope! (So do it sort of...)

And from more reading, I can probably do it with just a sine wave generator and my VOM.

LC(A) meter would work as well, but most people don't have even a decent VOM much less one of those.

Maybe in the automotive industry... They have just gotten way cooler and more "digital" in the electronics world.

And if I'm not mistaken, you have at least two cars/jeeps/trucks with the above...

Yes I do...

I do know how to use an O-scope, but sure as hell haven't touched or even SEEN one in the last 6 years.

I've been interested in getting one(and really leaning how to use one for a while now). They're cheap on ebay. I believe Phil mentioned something about owning one?

I have used them on a number of occasions and understand what they do, but don't proclaim to know enough to buy the right one or even a good one. And right now, buying one is not a reasonable option.

Though I have seen them on ebay and have considered it.

Nobody uses traditional o-scopes anymore outside of pro EEs. For the most part, they're PC accessories now:

I looked at those as well, but to get the decent resolution dual probe ones with just OK probes, etc is hundreds of $s. Used "analog" scopes w/probes are dirt cheep.

I am no EE, just a EH. (Electronic Hack). I know enough to be dangerous but way less than a 2nd quarter freshman EE.

Back in the dark ages I designed built and even sold small quantities of an adapter that would let you use an Atari digital joystick in place of the analog Apple ][ joysticks which made many classic arcade games way easier to play. that sounds simple, but isn't quite as it sounds due to how Apple implemented their decoder.

I'm just sayin', no one buys analog 'scopes anymore (hence their cheap prices). The hacker types use PC based units, the pros use the retarded expensive digital scopes. The digital ones are just much more useful, not to mention much easier to use.
