Pain doesn't affect me, I affect pain.
Default WTB: 1x1 inch square hollow steel/alliminium

As the title says, 1 x 1 inch square hollow metal. I just want metal scraps that are about 6 inches long. Just whatever left over stuff you guys have.

In case you don't know of it...Reno Salvage on Montello and 4th is a good source for scrap metal. You can take your pair of gloves and go through their stash. You have to pay for it, but you can find exactly what you need.

My dad probably has some lying around. How many pieces are you looking for? What do you intend to use it for?

It is intended for a camera mount. I would probably need 6 pieces, maybe 7.
Let me know if he does.

I would call either Metal Masters or Mikes Sheet Metal in Sparks.

You can get steel and aluminum stock like that at Home Depot and Lowes. It's not all that expensive... like $6-$10 for a 3' piece IIRC.

Ace usually has raw tube/bar stock, too.

Too bad Ace was driven out of business by HD and Lowes here in Reno.

I miss Ace... that place had 1/10th the space and yet had twice as much stuff as Home Depot. Ace's nuts and bolts aisle put HD to shame... M14 grade 8 allen socket cap? Ace had 'em.

Seriously? We still have them here. And yeah, the hardware section is usually a lot better than Lowe's Depot.

Lowe's even chased away Krispy Kreme.

Same here, much better selection of hardware at Ace.

I saw another Ace Hardware that just opened on Virginia St., just north of Vassar I believe. It looks like a smaller mom & pop type store, but I haven't had a chance to check it out yet.

Check this one out. I don't know if its something that you would want to do but its easy as hell to make.

Edit: I think it makes for a pretty cool video too.

You really want it centered IMHO. The center child seat tie down is a great point. Mine uses that in addition to diagonals up from the rear seat bolts. It was originally designed to handle multiple heavy cameras with multiple mounting position options, the forward one as close to the driver's head position as possible without being in the way.

Rear deck mounting really isn't great. If you open it up for wide angle, you get seats and heads and not track.

I think it was under $20 worth of stock and 1/2 a day of measure, cut and testing.

You are welcome to check it out.

Centered in which way, side to side or front to rear of the cabin? I thought the video provided by that rear mount was pretty good. Obviously if you had a passenger all you would see is seats and helmet. I agree that its not the best location but I like the simplicity of the mount.

Centered L-R and forward helps a lot. If you want a simple rear mount, use the child seat mount. If you can live with something that far back, fab a mount off the that. Why go off-center and bend all that metal?

Simplicity? Drill a hole in the roof and thread a 1/4" 20 screw into your camera through it.

If you are going to take the time to fab something, do something that works well.

And mine is simple. 2 wing nuts and 2 bolts that I was too lazy to make wing versions.
