That doesn't make any sense.

If Harry Reid were "for sale", wouldn't that mean he pushes for whatever the highest bidder wants even if it's contrary to his own beliefs? i.e. a Republican agenda?

So, why would a Republican scold Reid for doing what the Republicans want? Plus, isn't working for the highest bidder just market capitalism?

Sure. I honestly have no idea what's going on. Guess I should pay more attention.

It's just funny that two democratic politicians have been insulted in two seperate posts in this thread of all threads.

Yeah, I don't understand it either... first because I haven't heard anything about Reid being heavily swayed by lobbyists, and second because I don't know Scotty's political orientation. I guess if Scotty is a hard-core Democrat and Harry Reid is acting pro-Republican agenda because they're paying him, then the comment makes sense.

Scotty is anti-party. Scotty grew up in rural Nevada. Scotty is familiar with Reid's use of bad science to further political/economic agendas. Scotty is watching as Reid & his Vegas business cronies strongarm their way to screwing the rest of the state.

Are you referring to Yucca Mtn?

Personally, as long as the site it well engineered and safe, I'm all for a national nuke dump in NV. And I think we should be able to charge enough for it to, oh say, pay for maintenance on every road in the state, or perhaps, double the amount of money for our education system, etc.

To me the real issue is about who you believe when there are conflicting scientific opinions about the suitability of the site. And there, I don't know what to believe.

The issues I get involved in mostly concern water. Although land swap brokering with land management agencies and developers has been on the radar as well.

I'm with you on Yucca Mt., there is this whole sector of society that has stuck their collective head in the sand regarding the safety, reliability, and inexpensive nature of nuclear power. Keeping us on oil while they whine.......

Ahh, I'm totally out of the loop when it comes to water management stuff. But why is our US Senator is involved in something that should be at the state level? Why do we need federal level discussion about our state's water resources?

I suppose the justification would be the Colorado River Compact, Vegas depends on water that is shared primarily between NV, AZ, and CA, not to mention Mexico, UT, and CO. While Harry is a US Senator, his loyalties are primarily held by Vegas interests. Prior to taking the somewhat busy position of the Senate leader, Reid's staff was VERY involved at state-level issues. This continues, but I'm sure his time priorities have shifted a little...the issues they play in are long-term in regards to water and land, and so the machine grinds on.

I'm neither Rep nor Dem, probably most aligned w/Libertarians. However when, I see this kind of explanation coming from our Senator Reid, I get embarrssed first and then pissed. It soon passes when I come to grips that all the A-holes in our government are from another planet. Listen to this explanation on income tax. You won't know whether to laugh or cry!

Makes you wonder how many *other* government officials refuse to pay taxes, right?

This interview is with, supposedly, one of the most powerful and influential people in the United States. Ho do you think he CHOOSES TO PERCEIVE other laws, systems, concepts, Constitutional rights? What sort of decisions will someone like that make? How "in touch" are they with the population? What do they really care about?

Blatantly disregarding in a public interview one of the more oppressive and unconstitutional agencies in government is not exactly a way to build trust. In fact, he took that move right out of the Iraqi information minister's playbook.....

Not so much dude. If you think governments don't have the right to levy taxes, then you don't think governments should exist in the first place.

Cue Bob.

What do you think about our government? I found this video to be thought provoking.

Jeremiah 10:23 says It does not belong to man who is walking even to direct his step. Imperfect Man ruling imperfect man will always lead to failure.

You are jumping the gun, and putting words in my mouth. This is a topic for long discussion. Suffice to say, governments have the right to levy taxes certainly, but the NATURE of the taxes is what matters between a republic of independent states and something more centralized.

That is definitely a topic to be discussed over some beers, and not in a thread hijacking.

So what's the Bible's proposed correct government? So far, every religion based government has been a much more dismal failure than every attempt at a democracy/republic. Unless you want to count ancient Egypt, I guess, but the world has moved past the era when you could just enslave your neighbors for cheap labor to build your society with.

I guess we're just supposed to live in anarchy until Jesus gets back?

The Bible proposes God's heavenly government that does not have an imperfect man as ruler.

No. The bible says that we are to obey the governments that we have until they are done away with.

So then, your posting of the Bible passage had no relevancy to the discussion at hand. Got it.
