It's the big plastic thing in the front that funnels air from the front of the car to the stock airbox. I don't need the airbox or the silencer stuff. Last edited by knucklesplitter; 2009-05-08 at 07:46 AM. |

The snorkus has 2 screws I believe. It's actually the easiest part to remove. I believe your talking about the silencer that's in the wheel well. That's pretty east as well

Have to pull the fender liner. 6-8 screws and plastic body panel thingies. Pretty easy job.

I threw my snokus into the plastic recycle bin. I didn't think anybody would want it. I replaced it with the gpmoto intake elbow and then with an APS 70mm intake.

It would make more sense if you had replaced the silencer with the GP Moto elbow but okay. The snorkus is the scoop under the hood on top of the radiator. You should be using it in conjunction with the elbow.

As far as I know the intake silencer and the snorkus is the same thing. http://www.scoobymods.com/forums/rem...aka-t2095.html <-- snorkus pics down the page. I have no idea what that scoop under the hood is called though. I still have that scoop on mine even with the aps intake.

Well back in 2001, the snorkus was the cold air scoop, named so because it acted like a snorkle for drawing air from the hood down into the fender. We called that mod you linked to the "silencer removal mod". I think I've still got my silencer somewhere, except that it's been in two pieces since 2001, so it probably doesn't help much unless you want to get clever with some epoxy.

Oh yeah, I forgot what the point of this thread was... for some reason I thought supraluke needed a silencer. Now that I think about it... I can't specifically remember getting rid of my intake snorkus... I wonder if I still have it? Matt, I'll take a look for you the next time my WRX is out of the way of my parts shelf in the garage!

You should keep the snorkus in whether or not you have an aftermarket intake. It helps bring in cold air

Is that true? It seems like cold air gets in there just fine, it seems that is only going in the fender anyway? Can someone give me some good details? Maybe I will put it back on!! I have been itching to work on my car again anyway! I'm trying to make money talk to me! LOL so I can get exhaust. I need to look up the order in which I should do mods.

Usually. It certainly never hurts. What is your car and what intake are you running? How do you know? Have you logged your intake temps? What about on the track or in stop/go driving in August? Quote:
Cobb Tuning even designed their air box around the snorkus:

Mine is a stock 05white WRX. I haven't tracked it yet. I'm a n00b, trying to get LEARNED. LOL. I took out the airbox. I had a delete in, I removed that too. Didn't seem to fit properly. Maybe I'll have cody hook me up with his idea, seems to work well.

Clarification: By "delete", Mary means the RS fender hole plug. KS means an elbow that replaces the silencer.
