Another Slick Deal:

Panasonic TC-P54S1 54" 1080p Plasma for $1,099.99 (or $990 if using Sears Card) at Sears

I have a 42" Samsung plasma, and the glossy finish doesn't really bother me at all. There is a bit of glare, but it's not something I ever really notice when the set is on.

Honestly if it was something that really was a bother, it would be easy to mask off the screen and then spray the frame with plasti-dip. The reason I say plasti-dip is because its really easy to remove if you ever change your mind and its a clean looking matte finish.

You can also just let it acquire a film of special "matte dust"

The finish on the screen is glossy, not just the frame.

I don't think spraying your new $1000 TV with Plasti-dip is a good idea anyways.

Joel, you're a Dip.

I got no email from Dell, but all of the sudden my order is showing as shipped and FedEx tracking shows it was shipped yesterday via 2 Day service and is scheduled to arrive tomorrow! One guy already got his and it showed up destroyed by FedEx. I really hope that doesn't happen to mine.

They're shipping to my work and apparently you're not supposed to put Plasma TV's on their side so Dean's gonna be a pal and drive it from my work to my house tomorrow. So tomorrow evening should be pretty sweet if all goes well.

That's just so you don't crack the glass. Just drive carefully.

Why don't all you pussies spring for some window curtains if glare is such a big factor.

Brilliant. Why didn't I think of that?

Well, Khail was right. The glare is no worse than it was on my 26" Sony LCD that this was replacing. Picked up the stand for $200 and it's really nice. 50" 1080P, HTS 5.1/media center, and stand all for under a grand. We're stoked!

Edit: To clarify, the reflections are definitely worse. With the blinds open, I can see my own reflection from the couch. However it's really faint and no more annoying than the "glare" from the matt screen on the LCD. I also may just be blinded by my lust for the set.

I went to costco today and they have a pretty sweet 55" VISIO for like $1200. I would have gotten it but I think I am holding out for a projector.

Cody, you need much bigger speakers now.

If you want a projector, I have a Sharp Xr-10s that the lamp just burned out on. They still go for about $750. The lamps cost around $300. I would be okay with letting the projector go for $200.

I guess it depends. How far back in your closet is it?

I am interested. You can show it to me when I get the other stuff.

Ha, I just put the monster old school floor speakers in the garage with the old enormous entertainment system and enormous stereo. This HT system sounds great for the size of the speakers. I basically went form qty to quality with the HTS and from quality to quantity and quality with the 50" TV.

Hey Joel, check this out: Panasonic TC-P54S1 54" 1080p Plasma for $1,099.99 (or $990 if using Sears Card) at Sears

Well, I ended up snagging an LN52B530 from BestBuy over the weekend for $1200. It was about $200 more than I wanted to spend on a TV, but I don't think I was going to find a 52" sammy for under $1000 until at least after the new year (barring open box sets returned after black friday).

Not bad, especially since it's B&M and the 5% BCB.

There is this, but it's the glossy version:

Samsung 52" 1080p LCD HDTV (LN-52B550) w/ Samsung Blu-Ray Player (BD-P1600) - $1,139 + FSSS

That's not bad at all, but I really wanted the matte screen. We had a DLP in there before and that's about as matte as screens come and the windows opposite the TV could still be bothersome, so I really wanted a 530 or 630 Samsung and not the 550 or 650.

Just build a dedicated media room, problem solved!
