I have a question. Is this flat spot there on purpose? To get around something on the car?

By the way, only the catback arrived. This is on the pipe that goes between the cat and the muffler. (Mid-Pipe?)

Here is the muffler...Do these welds look normal? The coloring? Did this get too hot or is this the way these things come?

The weld looks normal to me. I don't know about the flat spot on the catback, though.

The weld looks good to me. Are you sure that indent is supposed to be there?

I will crawl under my car later and check if mine has that flat spot too. Where on the pipe is it? The top of the pipe or the bottom?

			Hey Mike...

The pipe has a hanger on it. The flat spot is near the end that is furthest from the hanger. Top or bottom I don't know. |

That flat spot looks alot like a dent. Definately check with Cobb. The welds look fine.

The welding looks the same as mine. The colours didn't come out very well because of the flash, but this is mine ...

As for the flat spot, I have it as well. It is on the top of the pipe (the same side as the hangers) and the front of the car (the other end of the pipe to the hangers. Mine is about 4 fingers wide, about 15 cm or so from the end of the pipe. It looks like it is there so that the pipe will clear a joint in the drive shaft.

Thanks everyone. The catback is installed and roaring. Took about an hour start to finish. The hanger forward from the muffler was a beeyotch to get off. Took lots of grunting and cussing but I got it.

A bit of "new metal burning in" odor was present on the initial drive. I'm sure that'll go away. I rechecked the everything and heard no signs of leaks etc. It would be nice to get the car on a lift to get a closer look though. FYI--spoke with COBB again today. The flat spot was indeed part of the design. They also stated that they have a new company casting the downpipes thus they should be catching up on orders within 2-6 weeks. Heck, I only ordered mine 17 weeks ago! LOL!! |
