Pass emissions with Cobb catted DP? - Subaru Enthusiasts Car Club of the Sierras

I have a catted Cobb DP so that 1 cat should be enough to pass emmisions for sure, right? I don't know Reno's exact smog requirements. The stock DP had two, so i was just wondering. Anyone else get smogged with Cobb DP?

You can pass emissions in Reno without any cats at all. All they do is hook up to the OND2 port and check for CELs - there is no sniffer test for OBD2 cars. There's a thread or two about this somewhere here ...

Or you can drive to Winnemucca, NV and register there. They don't ask questions and they don't even do smog at all.

So that means in the next couple years I need to move to Reno to register my car or sell it to one of you come smog time and start over again.

You just have to move to NV not all the way to Winnemucca.

Nevada law states that you MUST have 1 cat. But really that only applies to older cars that get the sniffer. So as long as you dont throw any CELs you will be fine reguardless. And you can clear all those with a Cobb AP.

True, but Federal law still states that you can't replace any of your cats at all... not that anybody here cares.

I just got my car smogged with a Cobb Stage 1 map. He just plugged in the computer to the OBDII port, let it idle for a 10 minutes or so and then told me it was done. I only have a catback at the moment.

You may also want to be sure that you haven't reset/reflashed the ECU recently. I've hear of that causing the ECU to give a "not ready" status. I think a few days of driving after resetting the ECU is usually enough to clear the "not ready" status. I recommend Fred's Automotive for smogs.
