We just made some sample courses yesterday at FRF, but there was a little communication snafu , and the Corporate office hadn't spoke to the track office, or something else confusing, the end result was their staff was very very surprised to see us. We ended up using the small skid pad which only allowed for very small courses (3 turns). Since we will get the big skid pad for the event, our layouts that we came up with won't be applicable, unless they are used as part of the final layout. It seemed that a good drift layout made for a VERY tight feeling AutoX course.

On an unrelated note, Scott seems fairly well known there. A nice fellow by the name of Mike (IIRC) noticed my STI and wanted to ride with me on the track. (he was assuming i was there for the test N tune also) He went on for quite some time about how fast Scott is in his "STI". I mentioned that Scott does basically have a modified STI, though its technically a WRX (Shell?), with STI type parts and lots of other mods, and that mine was stock. I also mentioned that riding with me, wouldn't really be what he was expecting. Someone else also mentioned a fast "White STI" could be anyone, but i'll assume its Mike. Still, pretty damn cool that random people think so highly of some of our board members.

I drove my car around the drift lay outs a few times, with DCCD fully open. but i was not drifting around. I did break the ass free a lil bit once or twice by taking the corner at the traction limit (in first) and then squeezing down on the gas a bit more. Seemed like learning that exact limit could be helpful in learning more about driving, traction, and limits.

I now expect to be .001 seconds faster per autox course.. /Sarcasm

snafu continues. The March 24 Drift-o-Rama has been postponed to a later date. Reasons are personal to the track time provider. Fellow enthusiasts please join us, we will still have an unofficial group drive through the mountains the same date. Meet at 8:00am March 24 at the Lakeside Inn and Casino upstairs restaurant for breakfast. (check www.lakesideinn.com for directions) Drive should last for a few hours. Radios available. This drive isn’t just for the drift crowd either; half of us that make Tahoe Motorsports drive Subarus. Please contact me so we can get an idea of how many want to join us. Or contact me for more info, or see our updated website (www.tahoemotorsports.com).

Sorry dude... I avoid publicly-created group drives as a general rule, and I hope you can see where one that was put together to give drifters something to do because their drift session was cancelled might not be the best idea also...

no we don't promote street racing or otherwise extreme danger to the public. with that said, if it makes you feel any better, we had no preregistrants. the only dudes that had any interest were friends of friends(4 rx7 guys from sacto). publicity includes a few local fliers and a few related internet forums. my research concluded that there is a giant sum of drift interest in sacto, including the 240, mazda, and old toyota crowd. boo frickin hoo. this just means that we'll be organizing (yes organized and legal) a dirt related event sooner.

jez were just a few enthusiasts looking to make amature motorsports more accessible and affordable. (ha, ha, funny to only me) come to the meet/drive and i'll explain. (ha ha, also funny for only me)

I'm not trying to make you look like some street racer punk, don't get me wrong. I've just seen so many group drives go *very* wrong and that's when it's supposedly done as a country drive without anybody pushing it. It can just easily become semi-competitive where a couple guys feel like showing off or trying something they haven't really done before in their car, and things go wrong. Imagining a few inexperienced drivers on unfamiliar roads in potentially poorly set up "drift" cars just makes it seem more likely to me.

On the other hand, you are obviously not the idiot type that gives guys like us a bad name since you were trying to get a sanctioned track event organized for those kinds of guys in the firs place. I was just giving you a heads up as to why you would probably find far less interest in a group drive than you did even with the legitimate event with this crowd is all. But, if you get a dirt event set up... bets are off for SECCS.

Meh, just let the people that want to drive fast do it. If they wanna get crazy on a 2 lane road they can be far, far ahead of me.

thanks for the neutral attitude. and in return, i'll be glad to see anyone there. and if not i'll still post some pics of what i hope to be a good time. and the best outcome; maybe i'll be acquainted with some good roads that i don't yet know about.

What if you are in front of them in the opposite direction - you have no control over the outcome. Be careful and considerate of everyone on those roads - this time of year especially. As it gets warmer, more and more bikes, motorcycles etc are on the road. It only takes one moment of bravato to ruin a day.

If it's a group drive, why would I be going in the opposite direction? I know yer point, but I can't worry about other drivers in the caravan. I can only be accountable for how I drive, not the guy carvin corners 200 ft in front of me. Like I said, if people want to be hella crazy, then they can, and I will do all I can to make sure I am driving safely.

I didn't realize you would be in the drive. I am referring to all the other people you guys pass that are not in the drive. Sorry these things always result in someone driving hard or beyond their abilities. Please let us know which road and when so we can steer clear!

I dunno, I'll probably go. A lot of the roads around the lake are 2 lane with double yellow's. I won't be passing anybody. I don't get why you think that I MUST drive fast.

It's not you. It's the kid who does think he has to drive like a dork that worries people like me and Nick.

Exactly! By passing I was referring to oncoming traffic passing by. Look, I have been there myself. I have done group drives with all of us driving like idiots. I used to drive fast all the time. I don't know if it was seeing or hearing about the accidents, but I smartened up. It doesn't matter what age you are, male or female; if you are driving in a large group of performance enthusiasts, someone at some point will push it and it may or may not result in disaster.

we've got a couple of routs in mind most of which include (ca) hwy 4, and 49. google it if you don't already know the roads. i've never driven that part of 49, but the rest of that highway i have driven is really fun. others in the group say it's great, and so is 4. especially sense it's early in the year..

We've already had one wrecked car on 49 during a club group drive.

The drive went great. Not much of a turn out though. The original rout was closed due to winter closure(duh). Plan B: we drove hwy 28 up the east shore of Tahoe. One of our guys got puked on because he chose to tailgate a car that must have had a hung-over dude in the backseat. We stopped in Incline to wash the car. Then we drove over Mt. Rose to Reno then hwy 341 to Virginia City. There we ate at a friend’s restaurant; the Bonanza Café.

After that we drove down the truck route, which as I understand is, backwards, the same road as the Ferrari hill climb. The rx7 got brake fade, Alex’s STi with green stuff pads got a little fade and some stink. My favorite part was when my Axxis “ultimate” pads smoked at the bottom of the hill. This is really cool because I didn’t notice any fade. And I have slightly blue rotors now. Too bad it’ll polish away in a couple of days.

To finish off we went back through Carson City, took Jacks Valley road to hwy 395/88 then came back to Tahoe from the south with a stop at my house in Meyers then bbq’ed at Gabe’s house.

We as a crew of enthusiasts did learn valuable lessons and skills from trying to organize a potentially fun time, only to get the shaft from a big un-organized business in the end. And we still know how to have a fun time. Further more, we’ll strive to bring good races and events to our community filled with other enthusiasts. Thanks for looking.

Ansel
