				 | MOST IMPORTANT PERFORMANCE MODIFICATIONS

I AM INTERESTED IN IMPROVING THE DRIVE OF MY 02 WRX. I AM NOT INTERESTED IN TRACK RACING, MORE SO ON THE RALLY TIP. SNOW AND DIRT. YES. WHAT DO YOU THINK THE MOST IMPORTANT INITIAL PERFORMANCE MODIFICATIONS ARE. AS OF NOW ALL I HAVE IS A K&N FILTER AND BAD ASS TIRES. THANK YOU...

Seat time, and instruction are the number one performance mods. Nothing can make your car faster per dollar than spending it on the driver. There are a number of Rally schools in the US, as well as ice driving schools. After that, suspension. Power is nothing if you can't put it to the ground, especially in the dirt, etc. A set of rally rated coilovers will cost you about $3,000-10,000+ depending on how hard core you want to go.

It's certainly important to devote time and money on driving skill, but if you can't make that kind of commitment maybe your money is better spent of physical mods to your car you can touch and use everyday. As far as suspension goes you can improve handling while sacrificing ride comfort by adding coilovers, sway bars, stiffened mounts, etc. As Dean pointed out you can spend tons of cash on coilovers and you get what you pay for. In the power department the way I look at I see two different camps, 1) You have a WRX, you want it to go fast. You buy turbo-back exhaust, new turbo, injectors, fuel pump, get it tuned make 250 at the wheels and wait for your transmission to break. 2) Buy an STi. The above camps are an everlong discussion in the group. Some people have bought and STi(2) and some have replaced or are replacing the transmission in their WRX(2)! Some are on the fence(3). You say you have some nice tires? What are you running? Many people on the forum have dedicated snow tires. For the dirt you could go all out: http://www.fourstarmotorsports.com/C...rstone_106.htm If you plan on really driving in dirt and snow you might want to consider protective 3M film for the front of your car. Although if you have an 02 it might already be pretty hammered. My 03 is not that great looking and I try to baby it, it’s black. and done. maybe some else can fill in my blanks because it's kinda of a lot to consider.

BAN SUVS and Atomiclabmonkey are both respected and knowledgeable people on the board. Try not to take everything as a personal attack: please read: --> http://www.seccs.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=168 --> http://www.seccs.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1720 The second thread is just and example of how some people don't commincate very well. You can get a lot of this board if you treat it well. Thanks. and you're welcome.

i have written in all capital letters since about the 5th grade. i had no intention of "yelling" at anyone and to be honest i probably write in all caps for pure aesthetics. i just like them. i felt like those responses were smart ass comments and myself being a smart ass i responded as i deemed appropriate. the members of your group that i met in person were very personable and welcoming and these responses seemed to come from some cliquey elitist group. i only wrote because i had respect for the knowledge on this site. thanks again for you response. I'm a smartass too. Hence my title. It's not personal, I just have to read message boards for a couple hours a day and I get tired of caps lock/horrible spelling/failure with grammar/ mAd TytE l33t speek y0 and all the rest of that garbage on the internet. Don't take offense to anything I post in response to you. If I really didn't like you, I wouldn't post at all because I really hate stupid internet drama. Anyways, welcome to the club, I hope you stick around. I'd offer you some tech advice like you were seeking, but frankly I'm no dirt and rally guru. I'm a tarmac guy, despite my subaru enthusiasm. Basically, keep it tall, soft, and like Tyson said, tires are key if you're serious about hitting the unpaved stuff. Oh, and it's a doorag, and it's on Emilio Estevez in case you hadn't noticed. Men at Work was the swan song of bad/good 80's movie cheese.

Depends on what you want to spend. You can get gravel spec coilovers, but they will run you quite a bit of $$$. A turbo-back, reflash, swaybar, endlinks, and some nice pads and fluid should give you a nice overall car for no tooo much money.
