Default Fried PS/2 port?

I have a wierd computer question. I walked into my computer room and sat down at my chair. When I touched my mouse I got a pretty wild static shock. It hurt like hell. It was enough of a shock to restart my computer. After the reboot I noticed that my mouse wasn't working. After taking apart the mouse I figured it was trashed and then went to walmart to get another one. Turns out that the new mouse doesn't work as well. Could I have toasted my PS/2 port? Can it be fixed, or will I have to switch to a USB mouse?

Port is probably toast. I have done it once as well plugging in a PS/2 cable while a PC was on without grounding it first.

Welcome to the world of USB.

It is remotely possible that there is a surface mount fuse that could be replaced, but depending on the PC, it will probably cost more to replace than the PC is worth. And more likely than not, you blew the controller chip.

If it is under warranty, they will probably replace the entire motherboard.

It's a 1 1/2 year old Dell, so warranty is out the door. Guess I'll go score a USB mouse tomorrow. Thanks Dean.

I think if your PS/2 port is fried, your best bet is to dip it in ranch and eat it.

(i.e. you're probably boned on ever fixing it, just go w/ the USB like Dean said)
