Default Need a new air filter...Need your 2 cents

Just thought I'd ask a few locals for some honest opinions on which air filter to go with. I have read a ton of crap and dont' know what to believe. Just curious what you were using and what to stay away from??? I've used oem sti in the past but would rather not spend $80 on a darn air filter unless it is the best out there. And yes I did search here but the thread was from '06, peoples preferences may have changed
For stock airbox that is.

Basically, you can have flow, or filtration, pick one.

That said, I use K&N. anything small enough to get through it can't be any bigger or more abrasive than carbon particles flying around the combustion chamber.

I also have the K&N drop in. Doesn't really add anything except it sounds a little cooler.

I use K&N because it's also washable and reusable. Unless you rally or drive in the dirt.

I have a K&N filter to sell - $20. Cleaned and oiled.

K&N works great. Just follow the cleaning/oiling instructions and don't overoil it.

I thought subies didn't like K&Ns because the oil residue that comes off of the filter builds up on the MAF and causes abnormal readings....not true??

Only a problem if you over oil them. Read the instructions and take your time... It can take an hour for the oil to wick through the filter. Only fill in after waiting... flipping it over a couple times helps it wick as well. Don't get tempted to "paint" the filter with oil.

My MAF has gotten some oil on it from my K&N but I just take it out and clean it with windex and a paper towel and everything is fine.

That was a joke. Do not do that.

Kragen sells actual MAF cleaner for like $5 a can.
