Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once
Default STi Cylinder Heads?

If you had an extra set of STi Cylinder heads, how much would they be worth?

$500-$600 in decent condition if they include the cams. Higher for pristine low low mileage ones.

I have a pair if you're looking for some.

Hrm... I might be interested in some STi heads... I'm using some ported/polished WRX heads, so no AVCS and single breathers for me...

I'd just need to figure out how to drive the AVCS w/ a WRX ECU, or pick up an STi ECU or go to stand alone EM.

I can probably sell you an Autronic Stand Alone before auto-x starts.

I have an extra set of STi heads off of a 04 STi. Basically, they are bare rebuildable heads.

I'd probably go either Hydra or Motec if I was going standalone... plis, I don't think the EVO Autronic ECU would work on a WRX.

What cams are you running - stock WRX non-AVCS?

Yep. They're standard WRX heads, standard cams, w/ a port and polish and I think an extremely mild valve job (just to clean up the exhaust leak I had after the blown motor).

Oooh... pretty porting!

Really, just some cams would bring my motor alive... but I really need the dual breathers off the STi heads to help combat all the blow-by pressure issues I've got with the high lateral G's on the road courses and autocross. So, some STi heads would fix that, plus give me the boost in torque from the cams and AVCS.

I guess ideally, I'd get some bare STi heads, EM to operate the AVCS, and then port/polish 'em and toss some hot cams in there... but I'd rather not spend $8000 on heads when I still need to put in a roll cage, seats, and fire equipment.

By "bare" do you mean no valves/springs/retainers and no cams?

I've heard of people swapping in the STI cams with some adaptors that lock in the timing and don't use the AVCS. That's a cheap upgrade, but I dunno if I'd pull the engine then heads just for that. Aftermarket cams seem to be coming down in price too.

Check NASIOC classifieds and maybe eBay to get an idea.

www.car-part.com puts a bare STi head at $250/each, but those prices from bone-yards are highly negotiable... I think $400 for the bare heads is probably about right.
